Abstract

The manipulation of protein structure enables a better understanding of the principles of protein folding, as well as the development of novel therapeutics and drug-delivery vehicles. Chemical synthesis is the most powerful approach for constructing proteins of novel design and structure, allowing for variation of covalent structure without limitations. Here we describe the various chemical methods that are currently used for creating proteins of unique architecture and function. Copyright (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd.
