Abstract

This review paper presents an overview of the studies in Medieval Epigraphy that have been carried out in Spain. After the presentation of its precedents, it focuses on the period when this discipline was developed, referring to the beginning of the Corpus Inscriptionum Hispaniae Mediaevalium (CIHM) and the publication of epigraphic texts. Then, the method used to study them will be discussed, and the principal lines of research that have been followed since then are analysed. The paper ends with a brief reflection on the different future perspectives.
