Abstract

Insects associated with sweet potato, Ipomoea batatas were surveyed at Ituporanga Experimental Station, EPAGRI S.A., Santa Catarina State, Brazil, from 1991 to 1994. Astylus variegatus Germ. (Coleoptera: Dasytidae) and Chaetocnema apricaria Suffr. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) were abundant throughout the crop cycle. The complex of Homoptera (Aphididae: Pemphigida e and Cicadellidae), Diabrotica speciosa Germ., and Typophorus nigritus versutus Lef. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) were constantly present but at lower levels than A. variegatus and C. apricaria. Systena sp. (Coleoptera: Chrysomeliadae) and Lagria villosa Fabr. (Coleoptera: Lagriidae), were casual and occurred at low frequency
