Evaluating AI Adoption in Academic Research: Assessing Usage, Impact, Challenges and Future Perspectives among Research Scholars of Tezpur University

Abstract

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is transforming academic study and writing, especially among researchers at Tezpur University in India. This paper looks at how AI technologies may help increase research productivity, facilitate literature reviews, and improve academic writing quality. A quantitative method was used, surveying responses of 176 PhD. researchers to assess their usage of AI technology, perceived advantages, and problems encountered. The findings show that AI greatly increases academic tasks by automating data processing and creating early drafts for research articles. These technologies enable researchers to concentrate on in-depth investigations while speeding up other research activities. However, the widespread use of AI raises ethical questions about academic integrity, data privacy, and prejudice in AI-generated content. The study highlights the need of higher education institutions developing clear regulations and instructing students on how to utilize AI tools ethically. It calls for collaboration among AI developers, educators, and policymakers to balance AI’s benefits with the need for ethical academic practices. As AI advances, it is vital to guarantee that its incorporation into academic writing and research improves efficiency while safeguarding the integrity of human creativity and analytical reasoning. This study’s findings seek to reveal AI’s transformational impact on higher education and provide suggestions for its effective deployment in research contexts.
