Abstract
Every language has its own way of describing ageing, old age and older people. Looking for other descriptions is only interesting if done in relation to cultural representations, time perception or social organisation, the allocation of status and roles. The system of thought and behaviour, which on the other hand is not fixed in any particular society, both feeds and feeds-on ways of describing ageing. © Fond. Nationale de Gérontologie.
