Abstract

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are becoming relevant tools in schools while being incorporated for educational purposes and beyond. Little national research has been done in Spain focused on how ICT are being used in secondary schools for educational guidance, and particularly how school websites are being used to develop actions that are grouped under the term “e-guidance”. Under this premise, a quantitative, descriptive, exploratory study was carried identifying the type of content, resources and materials being used and spread out from the secondary Schools’ Guidance Departments websites from the province of A Coruña (Spain). The results obtained from the 155 centers that participated in the research show that full potential of ICT is not being leveraged, and the use of the web for leading to resources related to the different areas of educational guidance is still quite limited. Therefore, all the involved actors should put in place mechanisms to encourage technological training of counselors, and to allocate resources to incorporate e-guidance initiatives.
