Abstract

The article elucidates the personality of Sister Aimee or Aimee Semple McPherson, founder of Angelus Temple of the Four-Square Gospel in Los Angeles, California, as reflected in this organization she formed. An evangelist for many years, Sister Aimee was able to attract an adoring audience. Some of them were emotionally unstable, destined from childhood to become fanatic cult followers. It was an audience which combined mental medievalism with an up-to-dateness in the physical realm.
