Abstract

In this study, three derivatives of poly(ether ether ketone) [PEEK] were prepared in suspension by nitration (NO2-PEEK), reduction to the amino group (NH2-PEEK) and carbonyl reduction (PEEK-OH). These modified polymers were characterized by NMR, IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. They showed interesting characteristics, such as, basicity and higher solubility in organic solvents, like DMF, for use as membranes and composites in different applications. ©2008 Sociedade Brasileira de Química.
