Abstract

After a brief review on optical fibers, the article describes the MCVD, POID, and multifiber-drawing cabling one-line processes. It then considers the state of the art of multimode and singlemode fibers and their measurement. In conclusion, there is an overview of the evolution of optical fibers emphasising perspectives for the future.
