Adolescent crisis

Abstract

Adolescent crisis is a state of mental dilemma or problem of decision making which all adolescents(10-19 years) necessarily have to pass through to become an adult. Majority of them successfully pass through this stage unknowingly and it is an unevenful event imperceptable even to their parents. In some 20% of situations the adolescent cannot talerate or manage this crisis and behavioral changes might develop. If this is not addressed in time it may be a turning point in the life of an adolescent and he/she may be labelled as unsocial, erratic or even antisocial and will land up in a situation from where they may not be able to come into mainstream. Six major developmental tasks were identified for adolescents and it is reviewed how an adolescent faces crisis and their management discussed.
