The “Benderang Sentosa” Waste Management Program Increase The Community Knowledge In Managing Waste To Achieve A Healthy Environment

Abstract

Background: Waste management is still become important issue related to environmental health. Lack of knowledge in waste management can cause negative impacts on the environment, such as soil, water and air pollution, and can also be a source of disease. This community services aims to implementing the The “Benderang Sentosa” Waste Management Program in increasing community knowledge in managing waste. Method: The program was health education and training conducted in three times during three weeks. The participants was 60 school-age children and 50 health cadres. The community knowledge was measure using questionnaire that had been developed. The analysis was compare the descriptive data between pre and post intervention. Main results: The level of knowledge of cadres about waste management was increased to 76%. Similarly, most school-age children improved to 75% demonstrating a good understanding of waste management. Conclusion: The “Benderang Sentosa” Waste Management Program can increase community knowledge about waste management.
