Abstract

The possibility of using artificial impedance surfaces for reducing mobile phone radiation into the user's head direction is investigated. In a model of an infinite screen, both far and near-zone antenna patterns are studied. It is found that high-impedance surfaces are not practical for this application. The use of low-impedance surfaces has the advantage of wider frequency band.
