Using an ethnographical approach, this article examines the power relationships that develop as a result of disciplinary control of foreigners held in administrative detention centres outside national territory. While these remote sites are par excellence dedicated to maintaining tight control over a population for surveillance purposes, they also include NGO workers whose mission is to inspect the work of the police forces. Through an analysis of concrete situations, the article takes a close look at how this associative « perspective » is integrated into the everyday operation of the centre, as well as its limits. © Belin.
