Abstract

Analysed were nine cases of undifferentiated carcinoma of the thyroid gland treated in Kyoto University during the past ten years. The patients in this report had usually been bearing goiter for a long period and came to the hospital with such complaints as hoarseness, dyspnea, dysphagia, local pain and recent rapid growth of the goiter. A strong tendency of the tumor to invade the surrounding organs was noted as the nature of this tumor, which made the prognosis of these patients extremely poor. Four cases out of nine suggested a possibility of malignant transformation from differentiated carcinoma. © 1980, The Society of Practical Otolaryngology. All rights reserved.
