Abstract

Establishing an appropriate attitude towards anomalies and deviations provides a powerful basis for identifying new problems and for the effective characterization of research problems. Negative or unexpected results may attain a significance that is as great as positive results because they provide the opportunity for the development of new, or even paradigm-shifting, hypotheses.
