Abstract

This study analyzes assertive communication strategies among teachers and students at the "Augusto Mendoza Moreira" High School, in Guayaquil-Ecuador, with the objective of identifying similarities and differences in the perception of these practices. Participants were 215 students and 11 teachers at the technical high school level, who completed structured Likert-type questionnaires in four dimensions: clarity and effectiveness of the message, empathy and respect, feedback and conflict resolution, and communicative environment and trust. Data were collected through digital surveys administered to students and teachers and analyzed using descriptive statistics and comparative cross-tabs between both groups. The results showed that, in general, teachers apply assertive communication strategies that are perceived positively, although moderate gaps were identified between teacher self-assessment and student perceptions, especially in tone, language, and perception of freedom to express ideas. It is concluded that, while assertive communication contributes to a positive and motivating learning environment, it is necessary to strengthen the coherence between teaching intentions and student experience by implementing visible actions that improve understanding, interaction, and confidence in the classroom.
