Abstract

The sexual abuse of minors by priests of the Catholic Church sparked great concern in many countries in recent years. In Chile, specifically, the theme revealed the links between different areas of elite power through the event known as Karadima. This article falls within the field of critical discourse analysis and examines it from the perspective of the strategies and functions of political discourse, propositions taken from twelve episodes of an interview and in them the discursive behavior of the principal authority of the Church Catholic in the context of this case and who also corresponded receive and investigate complaints first, Cardinal Errazuriz. The study seeks to uncover what the speaker discursive strategies used and how they are functional for the purposes of protecting the institution he represents. From the analysis an attempt to discredit the allegations of victims and validate the actions taken by your organization and some of its representatives warned.
