Eksplorasi Etnomatematika pada Tiga Papan Bersurat Peninggalan Syekh Mutamakkin di Masjid Kajen

Abstract

The three lettered boards left by Sheikh Mutamakkin have many interesting ornaments, symbols and geometric patterns to be studied further. The patterns in it contain mathematical concepts such as geometry, patterns and transformations, fractions, and mathematical symbols that can be analyzed with an ethnomathematics approach. The formulation of the problem in this study is how the concept of ethnomathematics, philosophical value, and religious value contained in the three lettered boards left by Sheikh Mutamakkin at the Kajen Mosque. This study aims to examine the philosophical meaning, religious value, and ethnomathematics elements contained in three letter boards left by Sheikh Mutamakkin at the Kajen Mosque, Pati. The letter boards are not only a cultural heritage with aesthetic value, but also full of moral messages and religious symbols, one of which is related to the recommendation to maintain ablution for biological and scientific descendants of Sheikh Mutamakkin. As a qualitative research with an ethnographic approach, this research uses a human instrument. This research reveals the mathematical values hidden behind the board, both in the form of conograms (sengkalan), dimensional measurement, geometry, symmetry, and transformation of buildings. Through the ethnomathematics approach, this research shows that local cultural heritage can be integrated in the mathematics learning process as a form of cultural preservation as well as strengthening numeracy literacy.
