Abstract

The new notion of multifunctionality of agriculture is used today in France and Europe to justify the peculiarity of the European model of agriculture, and the reason of agricultural subsidies. The analysis of multifunctionality implementation and of its budget gives indications about the distance still to run inoder to carry out the new discourses about agricultural multifonctionality. The analysis of arguments of Europe and international organisations concerning agricultural policy brings to the light implicit stakes, masked by the contradiction of discourses about multifonctionality, and brings to a new question: does the new notion of multifonctionality contribute to muddle up the basic political discussion?
