Association Between Age of Patient and Grade of Breast Cancer

Abstract

Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate the association between age of patients and histologic grade of breast cancer, to better understand how age affects tumor grade. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted at a single center and included women diagnosed with breast cancer between the ages of 18 and 80 years. The patients were categorized into different age groups, and tumor characteristics, including histological grade, tumor size, and lymph node involvement, were assessed. Statistical analysis was performed to identify significant associations between age and these characteristics, especially grade using Chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests. Results: No significant relationship was observed between age and histological grade (p=0.237). However, significant associations were found between age and axillary lymph node involvement (p=0.01) as well as TNM staging (p=0.03), with younger and older patients showing more advanced disease. Conclusion: This study shows there is no significant association between age of patients and histologic grade of breast cancer. Further research with larger, multi-center studies is needed to validate these findings.
