Auxiliar experimentorum – An innovative approach for creating and deploying scientific applications

Abstract

One of the primary assumption in the PLGrid Plus project proposal was expanding support for complex in-silico experiments. However, detailed analysis of scientific dataworkflows clearly shows that a data management solution for in-vivo or in-silico experiments may have major impact on the quality of research, laboratory administration and collaboration. The AuxEx (lat. Auxiliar Experimentorum) web application was developed in order to address experimentation requirements. It is a mixture of an electronic laboratory notebook, a knowledge base creator and a laboratory information management system, tailored for specific researchers. This article presents the authors’ observations and experience gained during development of AuxEx for nanotechnology groups.
