This article examines the principles of food security from a sharia economic perspective. There are very few studies on food security carried out by experts in Islamic studies, therefore this study hopes to contribute to increasing understanding of the importance of this topic. Lack of understanding of this topic in the Islamic world, has an impact on the low awareness of food security in several Muslim countries such as Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. This study uses a thematic interpretation approach and normative legal research to discover the principles of food security in the Alquran. The findings of this study indicate that there are five basic principles about food security in the Alquran, namely: Productivity, maintaining environmental ecosystems, fair distribution, good food storage systems, and moderate consumption behavior. The findings about the principles of this norm can be the basis for the development of further studies. And this research needs to be followed up with field research to see the implementation of the five norms in society.
