Abstract

In this chapter, we analyze the relationship between the Peruvian state and business families over the last one hundred and thirty years from two perspectives. The first is how the economic policies of the Peruvian state have affected the evolution of the structure of family businesses in Peru. The second analyzes the evolution of business families in Peruvian politics in order to understand their business strategies. Together, these two perspectives allow us to understand the transformation of large family businesses into investment groups and of economic groups into a heterogeneous structure according to the resources and capabilities of the business families.
