The Relationship between Psychological Well-Being and Drug Use Prevention Behavior in High School Adolescents in Makassar City

Abstract

Introduction: Drug use is mostly done by teenagers or young age groups. This cannot be separated from the nature of teenagers who have a great curiosity about drugs and a desire to try them. South Sulawesi as an education and tourism destination in Eastern Indonesia certainly has quite high potential for vulnerability. Especially in Makassar City, the opportunity to use or distribute drugs can be said to be quite high because this area has many universities and high schools (SMA), therefore for dealers this is a strategic route that can be utilized to distribute drugs using various modes. Another factor in a teenager abusing drugs is due to mental problems or psychological problems that occur to him. This indicates that humans are said to be healthy not only based on physical health, but also social and psychological health. The psychological health of individuals in undergoing their development as humans is known as psychological well-being. A person with good psychological well-being can handle disturbances that arise from the problems they experience. Objective: Based on this, research was conducted with the aim of revealing and knowing 1) a picture of psychological well-being in high school teenagers in Makassar City, 2) a picture of drug use prevention behavior in high school teenagers in Makassar City, 3) The influence of psychological well-being on drug use prevention behavior in high school teenagers in Makassar City. Method: This type of research is quantitative. This research uses a survey method with a cross sectional study approach with a sample size of 100 people Result: The results of the research are the first variable: 57 people out of 100 respondents in the research sample, 51.40% are in the good category in terms of psychological well-being, the second variable: 53 people out of 100 respondents in the research sample, 47.70% are in the good category. high category in terms of drug use prevention behavior and the last variable is that there is a significant relationship between psychological well-being and drug use prevention behavior among high school teenagers in Makassar City Conclusion: The conclusions are 1) the psychological well-being of high school teenagers in Makassar City is generally good, 2) the drug use prevention behavior of high school teenagers in Makassar City is generally high, 3) there is a significant relationship between psychological well-being and drug use prevention behavior among high school teenagers in Makassar City.
