GEOTECHNICAL CHALLENGES ON SOFT GROUND

Abstract

Developments and constructions on soft ground pose great challenges in the field of geotechnical engineering. Although soft ground is no longer considered a new concern in developments and constructions; there are many issues that may crop up repeatedly if proper planning, analysis, design, construction control and supervision are not implemented. This paper presents the common challenges faced on soft ground and aims to provide some insights on good design and construction practices. The suggestions provided in this paper are collection of experience gained from various projects.
