Abstract

Indonesia is a unitary country full of diversity, consisting of various cultures, regional languages, race, ethnicity, religion and belief, and so on. Indonesia is known by the motto of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, which is derived from the Old Javanese language and is often translated with the phrase "Different but still one". This motto is used to describe the unity and unity of the Nation and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia consisting of diverse cultures, regional languages, race, ethnicity, religion and belief. Understanding Adat is a cultural idea that consists of cultural values, norms, customs, institutions, and customary law that is commonly done in an area. In law and theory, formally known as Indigenous People, but in recent developments, indigenous Indonesians refuse to be grouped in such a way that adat is not only about the law but covers all aspects and levels of life. While the definition of archipelago is a term used to describe the archipelago that stretches from Sumatra to Papua, which is now largely the territory of the state of Indonesia. Understanding the values of the Unity in Diversity of multi-cultural / diverse society as a pillar of nationalism, as well as to provide discourse and suggestions to all parties, especially the implementers and policy makers in various relevant agencies, in order to be additional reference in determining the relevant regulations with the actualization of understanding the values of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika by multicultural society as a pillar of nationalism
