Abstract

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) complex will be upgraded in several phases which will allow the luminosity increasing to 5 × 1034cm−2 s−1. In order to benefit from the high luminosity LHC, the first station of the ATLAS muon end-cap system, named as Small Wheel (SW) will need to be replaced by a so called New Small Wheel (NSW) system. Small strip thin gap chamber (sTGC) is chosen as one of the two detector techniques for the NSW construction. The motivation and requirements of NSW construction, performance of sTGC detector are presented in this paper.
