Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Abstract

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - dysfunction of the heart muscle in the presence of overdevelopment - is the most common cardiovascular disease with a genetic origin. It is also influenced by environmental factors. With the advent of modern diagnostic modalities physicians have a more complete understanding of the natural history and pathophysiology of the disease and its clinical manifestations. At the same time the physician has acquired access to new medications and devices to help control the disease and improve the patient's quality of life and prognosis.
