Male-type alopecia is called androgenic alopecia or bald hair and this type usually begins to show in the late 20s or 30s. The patients have thin and soft hair from the frontal to the vertex area of the head instead of thick and healthy hair. This happens from the effects of male hormones and only thin, soft and short hair shows because of the short period of the anagen stage (Fig. 55.1). Male-type alopecia usually starts with an M shape that starts from the frontal area of the head or starts from the vertex of the head. But the posterior hair and temporal hair remain because of the effects of male hormones. © Springer-Verlag 2008.
