Abstract

Bronchiolitis is the most frecuent lower respiratory tract illnes in the first two years of life. Although its mortality is low, its high morbidity causes a big demand of assistance and also causes a high number of hospital admissions. Its occurs in epidemics in winter and early spring. Etiology is viral, and respiratory syncytial virus is the most frecuently insolate agent. Diagnostic is based on clinical findings. In most patients the disease is benign and self-limiting, disease severity occurs in small infants and infants with any risk factor associated, with high admission rates to hospital. There is sufficient evidence to determine nebulized epinephrine is the best bronchodilatador choice in therapy of bronchiolitis. Others therapies used in daily clinical practice, like corticosteroids and β-adrenergics, have very limited effectiveness.
