PRESENCE OF A SEX ATTRACTANT PHEROMONE IN HELOPELTIS CLAVIFER (WALKER) (HETEROPTERA: MIRIDAE)

Abstract

The presence of a sex attractant pheromone in adult females of Helopeltis clavifer (Walker) was demonstrated in both laboratory and field trials. Pheromone release occurred at all times of the day, but the number of males attracted was greatest during the first few hours of darkness each day. Under field conditions, males were first attracted to four day old virgin females and continued to be attracted at intervals until the day before death. Copyright © 1977, Wiley Blackwell.
