Abstract

The origin of Naegele’s rule to calculate the expected date of confinement is reviewed. It is possible that the rule has been misinterpreted, resulting in an earlier estimated date of delivery with implications for induction of labour for post dates pregnancy. © 2000 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.
