Abstract

In the present work, a brief review is made of the possible benefits of wearing masks by the general population in preventing Covid-19. Comparing the data collected in the literature, it appears that the results obtained point to an ineffectiveness, or, at most, doubtful (possible, potential) effectiveness of the use of masks by the general population (made of cotton or synthetic fabric, with very variable shapes, sizes and adherence to the face) as a disease prevention strategy. On the other hand, surgical-type masks can be effective (in the case of aerosols), according to the conclusion of a study published in Nature Medicina [6].
