Abstract
The textile industry plays a vital role in the economic development of many countries. However, the discharge of its effluents into the environment causes considerable pollution of the receiving bodies and serious health risk factors. In general, conventional treatment does not totally degrade its pollutants, so new treatment methods have been studied in the last decade, especially electrocoagulation. The present work aimed to evaluate the optimization of the electrocoagulation process applied in synthetic textile effluent in order to investigate the effect of current intensity and pH in relation to color removal. The results revealed the potential of the application of the process with values of current intensity of 33A and initial pH 3, exposing color removal in the order of 95%. The electrolysis time established in 30 minutes contributed to the effectiveness of the process in the treatment of the synthetic textile effluent and showed capacity for application in real scale effluents.
