Abstract

The article discusses the use of big data to improve patient safety, care quality and nursing practice in the U.S. Topics covered include the absence of advanced data technologies in the healthcare industry that are used for data mining, computation and analytic output, databases that can be gathered into a single data platform, and the need for strategic planning to shift to an integrated data environment. The incentivization of health information technology (HIT) is also mentioned.
