Abstract

The values of students regarded as a relation to their study courses are put under scrutiny in this paper. The prior definition of this notion is followed by an analysis of their values concerning 1) what incites them to study in higher education, 2) the pace of their courses, 3) the time devoted to studies, 4) the time spent in the higher education institution, and 5) student culture. The study is focused on students taking medicine and sociology courses. It is mainly based on the results of an online poll and interviews with a sample of this student population whose analysis is made in the light of the distinction between « instrumental » or « expressive values ».
