A History of Translation and Interpretation in Cameroon from Precolonial Times to Present

Abstract

The history of translation in Cameroon from 1840 to the present is outlined. The diversity of native languages in the country magnifies translation problems. Religious, literary, & technical perspectives are all necessary to an understanding of translation & its role in the precolonial & colonial periods in Cameroon. Religious missionaries played an important role in the early codification & translation of indigenous languages.
