Abstract
Investigated the status of employee assistance programs (EAPs) in 1997. Representatives of 336 firms listed among the Fortune 50 completed questionnaires concerning EAP services and procedures. Results show that 92% of firms offered EAPs in 1997 and of those, 90% reported that the EAPs provided some mental health and substance abuse services that were not counted against employee health insurance benefit limits. 41% of the firms carved out their mental health and substance abuse benefits to a behavioral healthcare vendor. Findings suggest that use of EAPs are at a historic high. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2007 APA, all rights reserved)
