Abstract
The purpose of the current study is to investigate the wear behavior of epoxy-based composites. These composite materials are frequently used in load-bearing applications, such as those found in the automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, and marine industries. Their low cost and strong mechanical qualities make them an ideal choice for mechatronics and related applications. In the present research work, numerous experiments have been conducted using a wide variety of factors, including load, distance, speed, and fly ash content, among others. To design the experiment, the response surface methodology was utilized. Within this methodology, the Box-Behnken optimization tool was also incorporated. To determine the individual and combined effects of input parameters on wear rate, the data were analyzed using the analysis of variance technique with a confidence level of 95%. Moreover, regression modeling has been utilized in the process of developing a mathematical model for predicting the response characteristic. The results of the study demonstrated that the models that were developed were successful in predicting the behavior of wear. The optimal set of parametric conditions, which included a load of 40 Newtons, a sliding speed of 20 m/s, and a sliding distance of 900 m, were used to calculate the noticeable wear rate, which was found to be 0.05629 mm(3)/Nm. In addition, it has been discovered that the applied load has the most significant impact on the degree to which composite materials can resist wear. The results of this study will be useful for a wide variety of applications within the Industry 4.0 framework.
