The first described case of cardiac sarcoid was published by Bernstein and associates in 1929. While cardiac sarcoidosis is more common than previously recognized, the true prevalence of this condition is unknown owing to the paucity of symptoms during life. Clinically significant cardiac involve- ment in truly unselected patients with sarcoidosis is probably impossible to ascertain, and most published studies have been carried out postmortem (Roberts et al. 1977; Fleming 1994).
