Abstract
For many decades, science, society and politics have been discussing the question of whether and in what form economic education should be an integral part of general education. Compared to school subjects such as history, geography, music or biology, the situation for economic education is very heterogeneous. Each federal state goes its own way. As a result, some students leave secondary schools with a basic knowledge of economics, while many others have experienced economics in their school careers rather in homeopathic doses. In view of the apparent relevance of economics for individuals and society, this should make one think. Due to the heterogeneous situation and the partly deficient economic education in the general education system, the Bündnis für Ökonomische Bildung Deutschland (BÖB) was founded at the end of 2019. As a network of teachers, associations, business and science, this alliance is committed to strengthening economic education. Specifically, it calls for a national strategy for economic education in Germany, which will ensure that economic education is sufficiently anchored in the curricula and that teachers are trained in a professional and didactically sound manner. More than 70 institutions now belong to this alliance and the basic position can be read in a key issues paper which is printed in this issue of the LIST Forum. The key points collected in this paper are based on comprehensive didactic arguments, some of which have been developed in years of discourse. The main features of these discourses will be developed in this paper, which will allow a didactical classification.
