Abstract
A study was conducted to assess the effect of responses and shared or non-shared consequences (in their four possible combinations) over the choice between shared or non-shared contingencies of partial altruism under two exchange conditions: labor exchange and resources and labor exchange. The experimental situation consisted on solving virtual puzzles on two computers connected in a network. Sixteen university students were randomly assigned to 8 experimental dyads. During the experimental conditions, each one of the participants in the dyad was able to see their partner's performance and place the pieces on their own puzzle (own) as well as on their partner's (remote). All dyads were exposed to successive experimental conditions of non-shared and shared responses under a labor exchange procedure during experimental phases and a resources and labor exchange procedure during interpolated survey sessions between each phase. Groups differed according to whether the response consequences were shared between each dyad participants (Group 1) or not (Group 2). Results show that synchronous operation of responses and shared consequences favor the systematic choice of shared contingencies of partial altruism to the detriment of the choice of non-shared contingencies on concurrent presentation. Results are discussed in terms of established interindividual relations relating to the exchange.
