Abstract

The current study tends to discuss the issue of concocting a needs analysis for ESP course which may provide useful information for the curriculum design of ESP course for business and engineering students in a Chinese applied university. The author used close-ended questionnaires to investigate the spe- cial needs of ESP course for students major in business and engineering and tried to indicate whether there is a correlation between students major and their specific needs in ESP course as well as whether the proficiency of Eng- lish correlates with their needs in ESP course. Questionnaires were also used to collect data from different perspectives like instructors, employees, and employers in relevant industries, trying to explore whether there are different beliefs about ESP needs among different participants
