Schistosomiasis as a disease and its prevalence in Sudan: An overview

Abstract

Schistosomiasis is the most prevalent parasitic disease after malaria in terms of socioeconomic and public health importance in the developing world. In Sudan, since the year 1919, the disease has been discovered in the northern part of the country, and later it was reported from different parts including Eastern and Western Sudan, Lake Nasser area, and many agricultural schemes such as Gezira Scheme, Rahad Scheme and Gunaid Sugar Cane Scheme.
