This paper aims to analyze the spatial organization of fishing communities from the logic of capitalist development and its implications on the livelihoods of groups that are part of marine extractive reserves. Geographic analysis adopted in this research incorporates gender relations, bringing to debate the division of labor and the use of natural resources originated both by the established social differences between men and women and by the varied sociospatial relations. The female labor in fishing activity was privileged, based on the actions developed by females in the daily practices of the Extractive Reserve of Iguape Bay.
