Abstract

An iodine-catalyzed sulfenylation of free indoles with sodium sulfinates is described. The reaction selectively afforded 3-arylthioindoles in good to high yields in anisole under metal-free conditions. Functional groups such as halogens were well tolerated under the optimized reaction conditions. © 2014 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH&Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
