Abstract

This approach to the early international dissemination of Maraño ́n's endocrinological work highlights the leading role he played in the emergence of this medical specialty in Spain in the international context. Endocrinology was taking shape in European clinical medicine during Marañon's generation, that of 1914, contributing to refocusing medical mind-set on the patient, such that endocrinology was initially not conceived of as an autonomous medical specialty. © 2013 CSIC.
