Surface gloss of plastic parts is considered to be crucial attribute of quality, especially in cases where esthetical appearance is of importance. This article provides an exploration of how decisive parameters of technological process influence the surface gloss. For this purpose, experiments were designed to detect positive and negative factors and identify optimal combination of control factors and non-controllable outside influences. Process parameter selection for the experiments was performed using Taguchi L9 orthogonal design and measurements of surface were carried out using commercial gloss meter. Results showed that this method was a useful tool to determine parameters and sensitivities of the plastic injection molding process that influence the surface gloss.
