Abstract

There has been a realization over the past decade or two that to understand and model the Earth's climate system, one needs to understand and model the coupled atmosphereocean system. Prominent modes of variability of the coupled system, such as the El Niño‐Southern Oscillation, have hammered this point home both for researchers and the educated public at large. But how do the atmosphere and the ocean actually talk to each other? What are the geophysical processes that allow an interaction? In Air‐Sea Interaction.
