The integration of natural spaces in urban planning is an accessible resource for urban efficiency and a better quality of life. In Mexico, the diffuse city, with a simplified planning system, degrades natural ecosystems and fails to make efficient use of its. Regional planning is an ideal means for the conservation of biodiversity compatible with urban development. Tropical cities present conditions for a sustainable model. Through preliminary studies and a territorial diagnosis, a prospective of reconversion is elaborated for Tampico’s urban agglomeration in the Gulf of Mexico. As a result, the 2050 Vision scenario is formulated, in which the creation of a limit through urban ecotones articulates a new blue and green infrastructure with the most compact urban artifact. The natural component, particularly the Tampico’s mangroves, are brought into the discussion to strengthen public policies to complete the resilient city model.
